Miss Josie Shaw left Sunday for Helena to visit friends for a short time. Numerous townsfolk and visitors, including A. B. Rosman and Al. Wright, were seen in town. The Castle mining district and local rail issues were discussed amid snow delays and shuttle trips to Helena and Hassel.
The Broadwater County Board of Commissioners met in special session March 11 1897 with Hyatt as chairman Schreiber Kisk and clerk Coad present. They discussed vault furniture printing contracts bids and county printing laws. The day closed with an evening session and adjournment to March 12.
Canton society reports Hassel preparations as H B Stewart plans to move there while W C Eversole tours Helena. Ore hauling, tunnel work, and mill timbering dominate activity at Little Giant and Alice mines with leads opened and prospecting ongoing. Community notices cover moves, rentals, and local meetings as residents plan spring changes.
The Broadwater celebration masquerade at Tierney's hall last evening drew a large crowd and was praised as the most enjoyable yet in Townsend. Fifty couples participated in the grand march to home orchestra music, costumes ranged from Sit ting Bull to maid of Erin, unmasking at 11 15 sparked surprises, then dancing and a well arranged program continued into the early morning with supper served at local restaurants.
The Citizens of Townsend are requested to meet in their respective wards at 7:30 P M Tuesday evening March 23 1897 to nominate aldermen for the next two years. First ward at Court House, second at School, third at City Hall. Per order.
District Clerk Lambert issued a license to Henry Cecil Bosh and Mrs. Matilda Mattson on Friday. They were married Sunday morning at the home of Mrs. Amelia Falen with Rev. Geo. D. King officiating. Bosh is a prominent Beaver Creek rancher and the bride has long resided in the area. The Messenger extends congratulations.
Dr. O S Crowder of Helena Mont will be at Townsend Hotel March 18 for dental practice in all branches, remaining four or five days.
All parties indebted to Patterson and Poe and to W J Patterson are urged to settle their accounts as the firm is in need of money. Hassel Montana December 21 1896.
