Word of a fatal rock fall reached Winston by telegraph detailing W S White's death at the Quartette mine head of White Horse gulch after a roof collapse. Pollard and Stoltz helped recover his body. an inquest followed and Valley Lodge No 21 A F & A M conducted his burial. White, 38, had long Montana ties and masonry and mining work in his history.
