Stock Commissioners Report Progress and Violations for 1899
The state board of stock commissioners reports 10 755 strays recovered and 203 498 cattle inspected in 1899. Cattle shipments were about five percent lighter than 1898 and expected to ease further in 1900. There were 600 arrests for stock law violations with 16 convictions and 11 pending cases. Inspectors expanded county service and 782 cattle hides killed on railways were inspected. Young stock entering the state did not exceed 50 000 head due to high prices.
