A letter argues for creating Broadwater county, outlining debt, property values, and proposed levies. It compares Jefferson Meagher costs, projects future earnings, and details officer salaries for second and third class counties, asserting lower taxes and benefits from local governance. The writer cites personal inconveniences serving elsewhere and urges support despite opposition narratives.
State of Montana Meagher County. The Bank of Townsend shows total resources of 67 110 65 with 39 351 69 in discounted bills and 31 601 96 in deposits. Capital stock 25 000, undivided profits 10 508 69. Cashier Hyatt swears the statement true. Notary B Doherty witnesses.
The proposal outlines Broadwater County creation from portions of Meagher and Jefferson counties. It estimates new county valuation around $2.17 million with $24,200 bonded debt from Meagher, and about $3.215 million from Jefferson. Projected annual expenses total about $32,508 plus salaries and road costs, with taxes and special charges yielding roughly $15,000 in fees and licenses.
