Death of Maj. Peter Ronan Heralds Statewide Loss

The death of Maj. Peter Ronan, a noted pioneer and longtime driving force behind the Helena Gazette, is reported after a sudden heart ailment. Ronan helped found the paper with E. Wilkinson and later with Henry Wilkinson, remained its leading figure through fires and political change, and served as Agent for the Flathead Indians until his death, leaving a wife and six children and many friends across Montana.

Townsends and Trails Across Belt Range in Local Outing

A Townsend party of young people with guides toured from Townsend's Boulevard to the Belt Range and back, three days of travel ending with a berry harvest and Iron Spring visit. Members include Mrs W Wood Mrs S Previtt Miss Mary Murray Miss Annie Hughes and others. The note thanks Mrs Tim McCarthy for huckleberries and mentions Moss Backs versus Townsend Maroons baseball game next Sunday with stakes of two kegs of Dixon's Beer.
