Drowned Soldiers and Boy in Fort Sherman Bay Tragedy
In Coeur d'Alene Idaho on August 3 two drownings occurred in a small bay opposite Fort Sherman. Artificial George F Zillhoffer of Company A and John Hart the 10 year old son of Musician Hart of Company F drowned after Zillhoffer attempted to swim with a boy on his back. They became tangled in long bay weeds and sank. Dr Brechenin post surgeon and a son of Lieutenant George pulled bodies from the water. The boy was revived unsuccessful. Zillhoffer died an hour later. The double funeral with military honors followed at Fort Sherman cemetery.
