Delegation led by I A Loree visits Topeka and Denver as rumors spread about acquiring new Western Lines. Chefoo Sept 26 The battle before Port Arthur since Sept 19 yields Japanese gains of several important positions and threatens Russian control of Fort Kuropatkin and the town’s water supply. Japanese losses claimed variably by Chinese and Russian sources, with bombardment continuing through Sept 19–20 and new heavy guns mounted.
