Topeka faces risk of canceling the Grand Court Ball. Citizens urge the event to proceed to honor President Ripley and Santa Fe directors who invested $140,000 in Topeka improvements this summer.
A Topeka effort to host a grand Santa Fe Ball Festival faces last minute opposition. Delegates urge keeping events at the Grand Opera House while showcasing Indian dances and city hospitality, arguing funding should come from Topeka residents.
Mrs Sutton expressed disappointment over current affairs that threaten her Floral Committee’s fall Floral Day ball. She said elaborate plans for Topeka guests may be abandoned if executives deny the epolleron’s scope. A banquet was considered, with tickets set high, and seating for the front row requested.
A plan to hold a ball at the Teprewmtative hall faced funding and seating issues. Prof. L. O. Stevens rose in a balloon near Niagara Falls on September 25 reaching about 000 feet when the balloon exploded. He was hanging by his toes from a trapeze as the craft collapsed. He released his parachute just in time and landed without a scratch.
Elien Orwell ten year old daughter of Win Orwell was struck by a Santa Fe engine yesterday near the Missouri Pacific crossing in Pittaburg. She and her six year old brother attempted to cross the track in front of the train. He escaped but she was hurled several feet from the track and severely injured. The extent of her injuries is not known but believed serious.

Patrolman G M Williams performed a marriage in North Topeka near 995 North Kansas Avenue. He unlocked his belt, went to a tower room, and conducted the ceremony in full uniform before resuming his beat. Williams was formerly a Methodist minister.
A duel occurred in Vienna after insults in the unterhaus. Count Eid ent, Austria’s prime minister, was wounded in the right hand in a pistol duel with Dr. Woltz, a German Nationalist leader. The dispute grew from yesterday's violent scenes in parliament and involved prominent political figures and aristocrats.
Paris dispatch quotes Politique Coloniale: Sultan of Turkey will address powers urging Britain to evacuate Egypt and proposing a conference at Constantinople or St. Petersburg. Russia supports the sultan, aiming to settle Egypt's autonomy under his suzerainty.
Steamer Rider from Skaguay and Dyea brings 23 passengers to Astoria Ore Sept 25. Captain Jenven reports a hostile mood at Skaguay and many will winter there or return. Fourteen gold mining claims in Sundum and Berners Bay districts in southwestern Alaska were sold to New York and Denver buyers for 200000 dollars in two deals seven claims per district. Sundum property sold for 125000 by ex Collector B F Moore. seven more bought by Denver capital sites for 375000 linked to James FR Price. Marcus Daly has sent five men to survey the region, and plans possible further investment. In Topeka, the White Squadron will be reinforced to clean paved streets near Kansas avenue. A M Blakesley of Waterbury Connecticut visits for the Fall Festival, hosted by Rev Linus Blakesley.

In Shamokin Pennsylvania Arthur W May aged 4 and Miss Cora Eustman aged 18 were found dead in the second story of a blacksmith shop owned by Joseph Smink. May had shot his lover then killed himself. The couple had planned to wed but faced parental opposition. Their bodies were still warm when discovered.
Miss Edna Whitney of Chillicothe arrives in Topeka next Tuesday at 4 30 p m. Santa Fe and Marshall and Manifold bands meet her at the depot to lead a procession escorting Queen Lorena. Mrs Bird's 200 cannery workers, Karnival Knights, Captain Hermans Knights guard, and Santa Fe shopmen urged to attend.
