In Hutchinson Kansas a high turnout heard rival factions of the 7th Kansas congressional race clash over free silver and gold standard. Republican speakers argued for maintaining the current money system while Democrats Populists and Silver backers urged free coinage. The event featured boisterous exchanges, with shoutbacks praising candidates and critiques of national party stances.
James R. Garfield son of the martyred president will spend a week in Kansas delivering Republican speeches. He will visit various cities from October 7 through October 34, speaking at Lincuin Michigan deputy pensions official, Major William Warner, and others. Weather forecasts show showers in parts of Kansas with warmer air in the east followed by cooler northwest winds.
Sunday morning the Kilmer camp group will arrive by land and train with Fort Riley cavalry joining from Fort Riley. Major T J Anderson selected to head the reception committee as Topeka prepares to escort troops to Camp Miles. A large 200 by 100 foot tent will be set near the old Rock Island building to host about 5 000 people.

The Fall Festival Flower parade in Becia will be about a mile long though cast order is not fully set. Mrs Milliken, chair of the general committee, expects at least ten boats with ten more possible entries. Major floats include Flora the queen, Orphans' Home, Ladies Circle of the GA, Lincoln Post, Topeka Post, Neomi Rebekah Lodge, Otto Keuhns, Equal Suffrage association, and two from the fire department.
The report notes Ratti te mune at 36 leading niche and ema as the equestrian feature with Rumber expected to draw at least 70 entrants, plus 50 cyclists expected to compete for prizes. Torn decor stripped townwide prompts questions about fall festival preparations and losses.

The Chicago merchant Edson Keith, torn by fears over free silver and economic conditions, disappeared and died by throwing himself into the lake near Thirteenth Street. His brother Elbridge G Keith confirmed the temporary insanity and that Keith carried $200,000 life insurance. His body was found at the lake’s foot near Sixteenth Street.
A Republican audience heard John F Scanton of Chicago at Hamilton Hall with the Little Prim quartet of four colored men. Rev John A Bright opened and sang Then Got the Life Line, urging support for McKinley. Scanlon argued against free trade while noting past panics and praised Republican policies.
Callias Bey, husband of the former Aime Barnum, has died in Constantinople.
