Riotous strikers battle in Leadville with five men killed as firemen are attacked trying to quench explosions and flames. Troops dispatched from across Colorado quell the unrest, crowds of citizens arm themselves and defend property amid destructive shaft house fires and gunfire.
Early morning violence erupts at Coronado and Emmett entries with multiple deaths and injuries among miners. A mob attack, origin linked to Coeur d'Alene tensions, prompts guards, trains, and city officials to restore order as banks suspend operations in Leadville amid threats.
Sheriff Newman of Leadville and Lake County official Jaden Owens requested troops at 3 39 this morning. Governor Metcalfe ordered immediate mobilization, sending nearly the entire Colorado military force toward Leadville to quell disturbances as Leadville and surrounding towns rush to the scene aboard special trains.
Leadville and Denver reports describe miners walking out over wage scales while some mines paid large dividends. An agreement set 250 dollars for some work when silver fell under 60 cents, deemed unfair by workers. Local reports claim Lorina will appear as a vision during Carnival Week with rumors of clouds and a spirit photograph. Haskell denies details about Lorina and Loring while a committee plans a spirit medium consultation to unveil who she is before Topeka next winter.

Governor Claude Matthews and about seven prominent Indians visited the U S battleship Tidiana off Tompkinsville New Jersey. Captain R D Evans welcomed them as a 13 gun salute sounded. The delegation came to present the ship with silver services and a library donated by Indiana citizens in honor of their state.
Yesterday afternoon sergeant Elson led officers to round up seventeen suspicious characters in Rock Isunde area. tramps were driven beyond city limits. some allegedly wore stolen overcoats. The mass roundup will continue through next week to clear the city.
