New York reports the government bond syndicate managers have effectively dissolved the venture and the Treasury can now operate independently. Checks were issued to members as profits, with no further aid expected, while presiding officials retreat for a five day absence.
Mrs Drusilla Wilson aged over eighty and her son arrived from Indianapolis to attend the funeral of J C Wilson, the late Santa Fe receiver. They were accompanied by one of Wilson's sisters. two more sisters could not travel. Funeral drills include four adults lodging in the city marching together. the service is expected to be the largest in Topeka.
The government thermometer read 88 degrees at 2 pm with 90 on the streets as storms moved from the central plains. Weather Observer Jennings notes the hot period is ending while showers spread through the northwest to Concordia and Miles City. Rain fell at Miles City and Huron with snow in Salt Lake City region. Tonight and Sunday bring showers or thunderstorms with cooler conditions likely Sunday.
Mrs Sally Hoge wife of ex Governor J H Hogg died of consumption at the Bone of Gov Hogg's osphew in Pueblo late last night after a four month illness. She leaves husband four children. Funeral planned for Austin on Monday.
Dan Stewart of the Forum Athletic club said no rush on choosing a referee for the Corbett Fussimmons bout to be decided at a New York meeting. He suggested a western or southwestern unit should decide, arguing the western element has no right to dictate the choice. Separately Chicago letter carriers skip a collection due to extreme heat, while other regions endure a hot spell and cooler forecasts loom as storms approach from the west.
Milwaukee Sept 21 The annual meeting of the GM and St. Paul railroad stockholders was held today. Thirteen directors were re elected and all officers were re elected. George R Peck and Burton Hansel were formally announced as counsel and general solicitor respectively.
New York Sept 21 No referee has been selected for the Corbett Fitzsimmons bout after a three hour meeting. W A Brady for Corbett Marian Julian for Fitzsimmons and Joe Vendle for the Florida Athletic Club debated naming a arbiter. Brady refused Yank Sullivan over insulting letters to Corbett and other candidates like Paul Dwyer and Herman Oetrichs were proposed but not accepted.
Diphtheria cases remain high with new infections today despite some drained relief. Citizens blame city water pipes and urge flushing hydrants and water cycles for an hour to curb disease. Bere W. C. Otte of St Paul Minnesota visits Topeka staying with his uncle H. R. Tillion. He began August 3 touring about mile a day through Marshalltown and Des Moines toward Rush City then via the Union Pacific to Topeka. He faced a punctured tire and rain but was never delayed by accidents. He plans to return home Sunday via Chicago, accompanied to Kansas City by G. Forbush. Six years ago he lived in Topeka but has forgotten old landmarks.
A charter for a Kansas railroad to Denver was filed with the secretary of state. The Atchison Stockton and Denver railway Company plans a line from Stocklyn Kansas near Hillity west to the state line and onward to Denver. Capitalization is 1 000 000 dollars with stock at 150 a share and a slate of directors including A J Harwi R B Drury and H J Harwi among others.

Emancipation celebrations in Topeka marked the thirty third anniversary of the emancipation proclamation with a small, subdued parade. Police led a late- morning procession on Kanes avenue followed by hawk and ladder company No 8 and the Pickaninny band. Fort Pillow post No 21 held ceremonies planned for 2 pm, but attendance and enthusiasm lagged. Many attendees came from Lawrence and Atchison as vendors hawked cider peanuts and watermelon at the park.
In a police court this morning the Banfield family of six lined up on a bench. Jimmie Binfield cried as he failed to tell his story. Frank Merrit and Jessie Peyton were accused of striking him with a stone but Jimmie had struck first. all were reprimanded by Judge Ferry and let go. Jimmie remains a newsroom favorite.
O R Motz, a go ahead employee responsible for collecting mail from city boxes, purchased an enclosed vehicle for mail pickup. The vehicle is handsomely painted, features glass side windows and back double doors, and bears gold U S Mail lettering. Motz paid for it himself since the government does not provide such equipment.
In Laweexce Kansas burglars attempted to rob Baldwin Bank early this morning. They were spotted and driven off before entry but not captured. Also reported a farming accident twelve miles south left Thomas McGuire with a broken right leg after a rake caused a horse to kick while he worked. Dr Powell attends.
