He previously served time in a penitentiary for criminal assault in Texas, drifted into evangelism, and later swindling schemes led to prison. Officer Fires On Three After Wedding Disturbance
In Chicago on Sept 10 at 1 30 am Police Officer Frank Williams confronted George Cokeny and Cornelius Murphy whoforced their way into a Polish wedding at a Sennes hall. After being ejected they beat the officer. Williams fired several shots. Cokeley was wounded fatally in the stomach and Murphy struck in the head. Williams also suffered heavy injuries and was hospitalized. The incident ended the wedding celebration. Dr M B Ward states he cannot attend the Severinga Grand Lodge meeting in Atlantic City due to business. George Dupree will be tried Thursday in police court on the call for intoxicating liquors after witnesses were not present. Mrs A P Wilder, wife of the Missouri Kansas Car manager, is confined to her Throop hotel room with slow fever.
