Topeka plans welcome 100000 visitors with promises of diverse amusements during Fall Festival week. Residents urged to suspend quarrels and present a united, welcoming front to ensure a successful event and future growth.
The Express notes the encampment cost to Buffalo was about 60000 while visitors left 2,000,000. It describes the crowd as unruly and not well behaved, contrasting with the desire for a good natured enjoyable gathering.
A dense urban gathering favored main streets while back lanes saw less crowding as mourners honored the fast diminishing army. The cost in dollars and cents mattered little beside the joy of revering the private who is now a hero.

A Topeka incident reports 12 year old Gus Lunstrom thrown from a wagon at Second and Buchanan as frightened horses bolted after a tanzae dropped. He suffered a badly fractured right arm and other children were bruised while passengers held on. Dr Mein treated the injured boy after bringing him into the city.
Lawrence Massachusetts reports 1200 workers returning as Everett mills restart after five weeks. York mills resume after six weeks, with about 1000 workers expected to be rehired. Mills affected include Allis Biddeford Mert and York Cotton mills in Race.
