At Cleveland the American Bankers Association nominated Walker Hill of St. Louis to be its next president. Alvah Trowbridge of New York to be vice president, with Byron Herrick slated for executive chair. Resolutions favoring the gold standard were debated and adopted after council referral. Rural delivery results show Tecumseh route handling over 6,200 pieces in August, a top rural service record.

Freight No. 18 on the Norfolk and Western broke in two this morning near Dingess tunnel Williamson West Virginia Sept 6. The killed are Frank K. Archer brakeman Kenova Charles Booth brakeman Layne John Chaffin Streman Dingess. The tubes of four tramps were found in the wreck.

Leavenworth December report says the Riverside mines strike has ended. Superintendent Kierstead offered miners ten cents per ton for ore to be weighed as it leaves the mine, with a settlement still under consideration. Most North Leavenworth miners, previously idle since Wednesday, are expected to accept the terms as the company shows willingness to concede.
Washington September debate on preventing insurgents in Luzon from getting ammunition and supplies. A naval blockade was deemed impractical as it could force war and risk recognizing the insurgents. Officials say limited naval enforcement at ports and under military law could restrain inbound ships, but availability of ships and stopping traffic remains uncertain.

Three Meadville residents were killed and several injured, including engineer Reuben Arnold and conductor Henry Schaepman. Passengers from Chicago, including John Kersh and Bilitz, aided in the aftermath as bodies were moved to the town.
