Rhodes Clean Up Promise Before State Fair
Rhodes, a second hand dealer at 1000 Kansas avenue, faced city council police committee over junk cluttering his corner. He pledged cleanup before the state fair and charged neighbor Sherman with causing trouble. The committee discussed hiring 20 special police for fall week, with 3 sanitary officers and 2 dog catchers to join regular force, totaling 20 specials plus the city department. Bob Pigg asked to run a business on East Sixth Street, but the committee refused recognition, calling his request a diplomatic issue and stating police persecution concerns.
