Dispatches from Ludington report the drowning death of Dr. William B Swan, secretary of the Kansas State Board of Health, after a boat capsized during a summer excursion. Dr Powell made a heroic rescue attempt for a companion before the body washed ashore too late.
The Swan-Powell-Cope party faced tragedy as Dr Swan died in Ludington on a rough lake day. Mrs Swan and two children remain with relatives. Mr Chaney notes the accident occurred during the final bathing outing before their Chicago trip. About 180 Topeka residents were visiting Ludington this season. The Topeka Homeopathic club plans a meeting Wednesday evening to discuss action.
Dr. Swan of Topeka dies after a capsized four stall boat on Lake Michigan near Ludington. Dr. L M Powell and Frank Cope, also of Topeka, rescue efforts fail to save Swan while Powell swims to shore. Swan, 32, a Baker University alumnus and Topeka physician, was a state health official and former legislator.

Mrs Emma Tobias wife of Guy Tobias formerly of 411 East Eleventh Street died in St Louis Missouri yesterday from the effects of a large dose of carbolic acid taken by mistake The acid was in a pin bottle similar in size to medicine which Mrs Tobias was taking She realized her mistake and ran for help but died shortly after The text notes Mr Narims last December and a move to St Louis about a year ago.
