Rock Island Directors Tour West on Annual Inspection

Rock Island officials led by President Warren Purdy completed an annual inspection trip by special train, visiting Topeka Horton St Joe and Chicago. The 900-series engines pulled the train and crews reported excellent condition of tracks and rolling stock, with plans for minor improvements and replacement of wooden bridges with iron and steel.

At the annual stockholders meeting in Chicago on October 2, over two thirds of the capital stock was represented. Directors were reelected. Officers elected: Robert T. Lincoln president Thomas H. Wickes vice president W A S Wernsheimer secretary. An executive committee of three was formed. The year’s total revenue reached 11,478,423 with cars contributing 9,748,576 and rentals 1,740,453. Operating expenses were 4,559,908 and dividends paid 3,090,000. surplus 2,295,405.

Filipino officers seek peace with MacArthur in Manila

An insurgent officer group met General MacArthur in Los Angeles seeking permission for a Filipino commutation and to discuss peace terms. They requested delivery of American and Spanish prisoners and methods for their release. The request was referred to General Oh. The officers were to return tomorrow for an answer.
