A blaze erupted on the stage of the Detroit Opera House and spread to burn out a city block. Fire crews battled the flames as emergency units cordoned off streets and residents were evacuated from nearby buildings. No fatalities are reported at this time.
A massive blaze leveled a ten story fireproof building in Detroit near Woodward and Grand Circus Park. The Julia Arthur Dramatic Company and several shops suffered heavy losses with estimated damages near $1 million. Firefighters battled the flames as neighboring venues and streets bore the blaze’s reach, with numerous structures and exhibits damaged or destroyed.
Winnipeg reports say forest fires at the boundary have broken out more furiously. Ten of twelve persons are reported to have been burned to death as the fires spread along the Manitoba line.
