Don Manuel de Azpilicueta Mexican ambassador to the United States arrived in Chicago from Washington for the fall festival. He was escorted by the First Division cavalry and the Mexican National and Phiney state banda to the Auditorium annex. Tonight reception committees plan to meet guests en route. President McKinley and Premier Laurier will be greeted at adjacent crossings and Mexican official Mariscal at Martinez.
The Rear Admiral will occupy quarters of Rear Admiral Howton in New York. The Chicago cruiser will dock at the Brooklyn navy yard for adjustments including removal of the conning tower and construction of a new chart house. Nominates Dr T Lewis of Olean for Congress in the Thirty fourth district. The Republican slate includes Be. Vree land of Salatmane.
Des Moines Iowa October 6 ex Senator James Harlan died at his Mount Pleasant home after a Sunday collapse from congestive lung troubles and overexertion at the Iowa Methodist conference. Funeral will be in Iowa Wesleyan chapel Mount Pleasant with daughter Mrs Lincoln and other relatives present. Harlan served as U S Senator 1865 65 and 1866 78 and Interior Secretary 1869 70.
President's presidential train moved through Ohio and Indiana with crowds clamoring for a speech. He introduced cabinet members at each station to applause. By day one the trip proceeded without any presidential address, yet crowds remained enthusiastic as bands played Hail to the Chief at stops.

Boston Oct 6 The Massachusetts Republican state convention nominated Lieut. Gov. W Murray Crane for governor by acclamation after a tense battle over Curtis Guild and John T. Bates. The platform praised the gold standard, opposed trusts, commended McKinley, and supported law and order protections for all citizens./Hosea W. Keyes renominated for attorney general by acclamation.
Havana Oct 6 The mayor of Bayam has issued an order prohibiting the display of any Spanish flag in Havana except at the Spanish consulate. The measure is expected to provoke significant hostile criticism from various quarters and may spark political dispute.
Stormy forecasts from New York to Washington warn of strong north to northwest breeze for yachting Saturday. Officials report rough seas, fair weather in the open. The latest trust is to line up Tolito and Ould at the helm as preparations continue along the Ohio, Indians, and Michigan routes.
