A. W. Smith of Wichita, known as Farmer Smith, visited Wichita yesterday afternoon to press his bid for the state superintendent of Insurance post to succeed Webb McNut. He claims Joanlins support, while Pat Rohrbaugh also is named as a candidate. Smith departed for Topeka last night after a brief visit.
Attorney General Boyle received letters from Fussell county and Barton county attorneys arguing that the reorganized Union Pacific Railroad aims to regain possession of lands sold for taxes while receivers operated the road. Counties contend tax claims should have been handled via the receivers court.
A Missouri Pacific passenger train No 74 was held up four and a half miles west of Sedalia on the Lexington branch. Three masked men attacked the train. one, Jim West, an employee, was captured, another wounded, the third escaped. Detected by company posse, shots exchanged, West jailed, pursuit for remaining bandits continued with detectives and officers.
