Notable Topeka Pioneer Dies After Illness

Mr Buechner, a well known Topeka Germain community member, died at 52 after illness. A former school board member and Arion Society president, he opened a North Topeka meat market in 1871 and invested in local real estate. Two Other Tragic Deaths In Fire At 1020 Kansas Ave

Fire at a frame dwelling on Kansas Avenue early Sunday morning claimed the lives of Mrs. M A Trigg and her daughter Ethel, suffocated by smoke. Mrs. Trigg, 52, and her daughter were reportedly awakened by the smell of smoke and attempted to reach the child’s bed, with both victims overcome by heat and fumes. The cause remains undetermined, with theories ranging from matches used during cooking to clothes catching fire from a kitchen stove.

Dust cyclone wrecks towns in Wimmera district

Treasury Gets a Lift From Union Pacific Bonds

Washington November 22 the treasury today received from the reorganization committee of the Union Pacific 15 645 250 in cost and lent over to the committee that amount in bonds in the sinking fund of the road. Most bonds were in the New York sales treasury and turned over to the committee promptly. The remaining bonds were turned over upon a message from Assistant Treasurer Melone that money had been deposited in the National City Bank of New York to the government order. The total will be distributed among New York banks with deposits of United States bonds in security in proportion to the amounts deposited.
