A disruptive incident outside the White House led to the removal of Mrs Nation after she penetrated toward executive offices. Security and government officials responded as members of Congress gathered nearby.
In the senate gallery Mrs Nation disrupted proceedings by shouting slogans about saloons. A doorkeeper seized her, she was escorted out, arrested and fined $25 which was paid. She declared herself a liberty-loving woman and criticized the White House treatment.
Mrs Nation, escorted by police, caused a disturbance in the executive offices while protesting prohibition enforcement. She shouted at President Roosevelt and other officials, demanded audiences, and refused to leave. She was restrained, taken to police headquarters, arraigned for disorderly conduct, and fined $25 or 10 days in jail.
A farmer named Rich lost about 5300 near the Eighth Street entrance to a farm when two highwaymen accosted him. He resisted, the robbers seized his purse containing the money, and fled as bystanders shouted. Police were alerted but could not locate the culprits. The Rich brothers traveled to Baltimore seeking clues, alleging the robbers may have larger sums but escaped with a small purse.
Governor Chatterton received a threatening letter on Albany hotel stationery in Cheyenne claiming death if Tom Horn is hanged. In Denver, Horn’s sentence is to be carried out tomorrow for the Nickell murder, with the sender warning the governor would die within 71 hours if the death penalty proceeds.
