Sumner School Destroyed By Fire In Topeka

Sumner school on the northeast corner of Fourth street and Western avenue was nearly ruined by a fire last evening. Students gathered outside as firefighters battled the blaze. The janitor William Page discovered the odor, alerted crews, and was burned on the hand. The building cost about 8000 dollars ten years ago with total losses near 10000 including books. The cause remains undetermined but incendiary rumors persist while a heater basement origin is considered plausible. All summer school pupils will attend Douglas school tomorrow with attendance required at 9 oclock.
