Bryan approves resignation of SC senators
Lincoln Nebraska May 23 W J Bryan issued a statement on the resignations of Senators McLaurin and Tilman, calling it an honorable and beneficial course for the state. He argued South Carolina would then have a voice in public matters, noting Tilman’s re election and McLaurin’s weaker chance at re nominating, while contrasting the men as representing different forces. The vote, he said, would show whether plutocratic ideas gain traction in the South.
