Cripple Creek and Victor miners clash with deputies as arbitration talk rises. Governor Waite backs mediation while deputies camp at Divide and Sheriff actions spark tense exchanges. Union leaders in Victor push for an arbitration panel and prepare for possible prisoner exchanges amid mounting violence.
Reports from multiple towns chronicle mining unrest. Militia with four companies and a large sheriff’s force escort the delayed Illinois Central train past strikers near Minonk, while gunfire narrowly avoids incident at Meyer coke works. Other sites note withdrawals or preparations as miners return to work for agreed rates, with tensions flaring over potential use of armed replacements.
A steamboat load of miners, unarmed, moved from Pomeroy toward Spillman in May 04. They seek to reinforce Camden's works and confront the West Virginia militia. With the mine shut, Cincinnati and Pomeroy packets lose coal traffic and may halt. The miners aim to camp at the mine mouth to shut the work down.
Forty eight of Gen. Bennett's commonwealers arrive from Hiawatha to join Gen Sanders on the reservation. Sanders bonds for trial in September. others go on own recognizance. St Louis plans large reception for Gen Kelly and his army with mass meeting, parade, and donations. Frye's industrial army leaves Cincinnati by barges for Pittsburgh. Denver commonwealers enrollments rise as Carter's contingent reaches Pueblo. Police and civilian efforts confront Italian miners and jail actions. Santa Fe shopmen resist seventy five cent excursion rate while negotiations continue.
Report from Rouse Colorado dated May 28 describes about one thousand miners from Fremont county and Trinidad forces marching into a camp. They have behaved peaceably so far with about one hundred and fifty in attendance.
Mrs Artz opposes the Coxey march to Leavenworth and Washington. A mass meeting at the courthouse plans to raise funds for transport. General Artz is elected captain with J J Foster and G W Gemp as lieutenants. About thirty nine privates, many with Santa Fe shop ties, prepare to depart at 7:30 am. Artz may receive a guiding telegram, while Mrs Artz questions the trip for health and political reasons.
Police nabbed Charley Spendlove amid rumors of a four to five member gang behind stall thefts. A roost was found in an empty basement at 732 Kansas Avenue with plunder. Spendlove confessed Speedy the one eyed newsboy aided in thefts. Other boys to be arrested.
The plan to mandamus Governor Lewelling to order an investigation of Warden Chase and penitentiary directors has been abandoned. Warden Chase defended his actions, noting Bunn was discharged for incompetence and whisky use by convicts, while other directors faced charges for not probing further. Governor Lewelling said mandamus actions may begin, with a June 8 board meeting planned to consider the complaints.
The Church of the Assumption hosts a confirmation for ninety four communicants at 7 30 pm with Bishop Burke presiding. Music features Veni Spiritus Sanctus and Veni Creator Spiritus sung by Chas Reeske. Assisting clergy include Very Rev F M Jayden and Fathers Cooley Henry Moore Cavanaugh among others.

In New York on May 24 the trans Atlantic freighter Francisca, after leaving docks Saturday, remains in the inner harbor because the bunkers' coal is of poor quality. The ship was laid to off Liberty Island while lighters took coal ashore, a direct result of the coal miners strike.
