Shooting at Copeland Hotel Leaves Clerk Wounded
At about 4:60 pm Charles Stewart a fifteen year old bell boy shot W Birdsall night clerk at the Copeland Hotel in the back, after earlier quarrels over a chandelier globe and a missing item. Stewart fled and later surrendered his revolver to a manager. Dr Sheldon attends the wounded man. Birdsall is a longtime clerk and son of a former Emporia postmaster.

In Barcevona on May 21 six anarchists Condina Cerezueta Sugas Bernal Villarabia and Mier were executed at 4 AM outside Montjuich citadel for involvement in Captain General Martinez Campos assassination attempt and the Liceo theatre bomb. Troops formed a square and the condemned faced the wall as volleys rung. Four died from the first volley. Logas and Cordina required a second volley.

Fires at three locations blamed on Secondtaries
In fourty four hours three fires erupted in town, all suspected incendiary acts. The Star grocery at 112 Sixth Street saw a rear pile of boxes ignited and quickly extinguished with a broken basement window. At 1227 Jefferson Street a row of pank shanties burned, center house owned by M Drain, with a warning from Minor Freeman prior to the blaze. By 9:10 AM at 918 and 916 Quincy Street barns belonging to S M Robinson and Charles M Ela caught fire in a narrow alley, with one barn a total loss and the other largely damaged. a third barn owned by George Hackney suffered scorching but no entry. A warrant was issued for Freeman, and authorities sought to serve it.
