A rural New England play titled The Dairy Farm is presented to Topeka audiences for the first time and draws praise for its simple charm and convincing rustic atmosphere. Cast members deliver earnest performances that capture the season’s mood and evoke wholesome country life.
Former Washburn student Harry Sullivan leads in The Dairy Farm stage production with cast including Paul Taylor as Julius and Nathan Heitan Tatien. Sullivan hopes Washburn games return while Mrs Sullivan and child wait at home in White Cloud. Cast praised for strong performances and overall creditable work. Evening preview notes Sullivan’s past as a notable catcher and Brewster as a famed Washburn pitcher.
The Christian Endeavor societies of the city gather at 3 o'clock this evening at English Lutherans church on Fifth and Harricen. The Loom Union hosts the meeting with several talks and musical pieces including Some Things that English Endeavor Has Done by Culmer Vocalsto and William White. Local officers present works by B H Hogueland and others.
Contemporary critics note The Christian by a Brecht-like author has drawn crowded houses in its third act. The production by a major company in New York has earned over $1,000,000 in gross, most from admissions. Tickets for the May return trip to New York via the Broadway line are on sale, with a sale date of May 17.
Topeka to add a 75 foot aerial truck, two new horses, three more horses, and a six man crew for the aerial unit. An extra firefighter for station No 4 and about 4000 a year in expenses are forecast. Council referred the report to Ways and Means amid concerns over cost and a critic urged better telegraph alarm boxes and faster fire response.
A city needs an aerial fire truck not to exceed 4200 dollars and at least two additional regular men. The fire marshal should be authorized to place a man on duty at the station. The letter urges strengthening the department to protect homes and businesses and residents, citing a large district and existing barge traffic.
Prominent Fort Worth railroad officials and business leaders discuss extending the Fort Worth line to the Gulf coast, likely via Dallas. The plan envisions steel rails and cantilever bridges replacing wood, with absorption of entrance rights and alignment through Dallas to reach the coast. Leaders plan surveys and expect a race to secure franchise support among competing lines.
Fragmented ad text lists several employment pleas for a room girl, experienced workers, and salesmen. Mentions locations like Mount Hope, Lawrence, Spokane, and references to fruit sales and nursery work. Obscure lines hint at wages, terms, and product lines amid garbled OCR.
