A Washington telegraph says four of Admiral Sampson's ships the New York Indians Town and Puritan are ready for sea with bunkers full coal at capacity and two oilers to accompany them. Commodore Robley's squadron at Hampton Roads the Brooklyn Massachusetts and Texas with coalers is ready to sail. Scouts may report on Spanish fleet location and direction, aiming to intercept. Opinions vary on Spanish course, with a possible move toward Puerto Rico or San Juan before engagement.
The Golorado Federation of Labor meeting in Colorado Springs pledged 50,000 unionists to the president in case of war. The convention backed Cuban independence and supported government actions there. It also opposed a bond issue and urged coinage of silver or direct legal tender to the people if needed.

Ottawa May 5 J D Bowersock of Lawrence was nominated as the Republican candidate for Congress in the Second district this afternoon on the 325th ballot. Douglas County's candidate defeats the field as anti Leland men win a complete victory. Leland turned down after laboring to secure such nomination.
