Pension Commissioner Hyanshin has offered to retire and placed his resignation with the president but will not depart until a suitable diplomatic post is found. He stated policy will remain unchanged and a public report from the pension committee is pending with no set release date.
The executive council failed to elect a new official amid a postponement of the gubernatorial assistant post and disputes over candidates. Attorney General Godard Wee Kaneia City and Secretary of State Clark were away. only routine matters were addressed. Pretoria March 23 A British movement under Lord Kitchener presses deep into Boer territory near the Transvaal Colony trapping about 1500 Boers led by Delarey Liebenbergs Kemp and Wolmarans. Despite a rapid British advance many burghers escaped leaving 179 prisoners including Commandant H Kruger and Landrost Nesthling of Klerksdorp.

Atchison March 28 Myrtle O-Neil 28 of Walnut township ten miles south of Atchison completed a twenty six day fast dying from the emaciation yet able to walk yesterday. She began March first abstaining completely from food and endured a long hard fast urged by religious enthusiasm. She had been a music teacher in Leavenworth eight years and spent time at her father’s home in Polo County. She did not consent to food yesterday without persuasion from family and friends. It is her second fast the first lasting a week.
Washington March 28 The presidents message to congress prompts speculation on the United States minister to Cuba post. Leading candidates include Charles H Allen Gen Fitelagh Lee and William Clay Evans with each favored for their service in Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Senator Burton arrived early from Abilene and met a stream of politicians at the Copeland Hotel in Topeka. The lobby buzzed with federal office holders and county figures as Burton reiterated he will not take sides in the fight, while his supporters and opponents debated endorsements across districts and conventions. Burton plans headquarters in Frank Grimes’ office and will stay in Topeka tonight before departing for Washington.
