Secret Buried The Frank Nevels Case Ends in Death
The imprisoned Frank Nevels died at the county jail at 12 48 after conviction for the Matson murder in December 1894. He had previously told a fellow prisoner he would not live a week if convicted. The dying man spoke softly to jailers and his father and asked for sleep in his bed and for not to be moved. He had whispered to the jailer about the verdict and showed signs of waning strength, while his wife and mother were referenced in last requests. The body will be sent to Winfield with expenses paid by the county.

City Physician Mitchell notes little change in William Pope who is quarantined for smallpox. Two or three colored people visited Pope on Sunday but were watched by Sanitary Officer Fowler. If any of them fall ill they will be immediately quarantined. The quarantined house is guarded day and night and the board of health hopes the disease remains confined. Receiver for Kansas City Loan Bank Aldes of Wynsdone county names C F Wilawe receiver after the bank closed February 5. The bank had $50,000 capital.
