Newport Kentucky reports the execution of Scott J. Jackson and Alonzo Walling after a hard fight to save Walling. Crowds gathered as the double hanging occurred at Ushe today with both men declaring innocence.
Reports circulated about respite for two men caused excitement in Covington Cincinnati and nearby towns. Police, deputies and a large crowd watched the scaffold in the court yard as signals marked the first execution and crowds cheered. Friends of the Bryan family attended from Greencastle and Truk, extending over the suspenseful forenoon.
Gov Brad Lieg and Circuit Judge Helm discuss the Walling and Jackson murders. Walling and Jackson face execution for the Pearl Bryan case with the time set at 11 20 oclock. Prosecutors detail evidence linking Jackson and Walling to the crime including letters, clothing and a bloodstained purse. White, Christian Kiebecker died at St Marys Hospital after a boxing match with Frank Chanetly on Thursday. Arrests expected.
Local officials and the Commercial club debate an auditorium in City Park with fewer restrictions than a prior council proposal. Members push for citizen funding of about 19,000 to 29,000 plus coal fund to build a substantial hall, while opposing excessive limits that could block the project.
Reported derailment on the Baltimore & Ohio line near Tid, Oakland Md. train No. 2 from Cincinnati and St. Louis left the track at a bridge, five injured and one killed. Victims include Charles S. Martin of Selina Kansas and J H Richards of Fort Scott Kansas. Dr Mettomas will move injured to Cumberland. Wreck caused by broken bolts and rail displacement, actual cause pending. Fall River Massachusetts March 20. agitation over reducing mill hours for workers is intense with pro and con views. Secretary Howard of the Spinners Union warned southern competition would not worsen with shorter hours, while a top local manufacturer argued cut stock to improve trade has failed to benefit northern mills as southern output rose. Over about three and a half years Fall River mills closed about six months, costing wages around 4 160 000. Fixed expenses keep mills paying about 3 000 000 in losses, totaling over 7 000 000 for the city. Northern mills claim southern rivals profit while taxes remain nominal and hours drop to about 0.72 weekly with 4 percent lower labor costs.
Washington dispatches indicate Bristow will be named postmaster general with Leland’s backing, Curtis pressing for unity among the Kansas delegation. Bristow’s bid sparks Republican infighting as Baker and Broderick align with the Leland faction, while Curtis faces pressure over endorsements and potential trades in the First district.

N D Parker states the State Journal item about a four dollar check passed on E Rost and his arrest caused by Rost is a mistake. He says he was a contmper not a collector and the trouble arose from an unknown hatwed act. The matter has been adjusted.
