James Douglass, a teowestsetawn colored man, was arrested today on charges in a bias-related assault case filed by Mrs Winnie Smith. The dispute stemmed from a fence and window dispute at a property, with Douglass allegedly using expressive actions to persuade and restrain. The case is set for trial tomorrow in Justice Gay's court.

Eugene Perryman a janitor in the Office block was arrested after he fired a pistol at his wife during a dispute over alimony. The woman escaped injury as the shot missed at close range. Perryman was previously divorced and wounded himself last summer in an empty room of the same block.
A Danville report says Governor Bradley was hung in effigy overnight. The perpetrators are unknown and the police have no leads. The figure wore the governor’s white hat and carried a card reading Hiot Alarm Bradley. It was hung on a telephone wire near Boyle Bank and a barber Khon witnessed the event.
In the house of commons a second reading on the agricultural produce bill was discussed. F B Mildmay, Liberal Unionist MP for Totnes, warned that London stores sold American beef at British meat prices, harming agriculture. He favored marking American cheese as well to protect consumers and British growers from foreign competition.
A Windward man now owns the famous trotting stallion Westbrooke after purchasing an interest in the celebrated horse. Westbrooke, to be shipped April 1, has the fastest trotting record of any Patch on Wilkem stallion in the United States. The horse’s progeny include a famous brother, Joe Patch On 2,04 P, boosting its status among racing circles.
McKinley appears the likely Republican presidential nominee with solid western and southern support. Morton, Reed, Allison, and Davis face weak backing in McKinley states, as the Western and Southern bloc grows, leaving Morton’s New York bid vulnerable. Reports from Albany and Washington flag McKinley momentum, while Massachusetts and New England factions fear a Reed revolt may derail opposition.
Chairman Jones of the state central committee called the Republican state convention to order at 12:30. The academy of music was crowded with delegates and spectators making the event the most enthusiastic political gathering seen in Mitwacxes.
Secre tary Ewing announced no contest among delegates and the reading of delegate lists was waived. G. Evch of Lacroser was chosen chairman amid applause. The Congregational council in San Francisco on March 14 found Rev. G. C. Brown not guilty of adultery with Mrs. Stockton or Miss Overman but censured him for unministerial conduct. The report criticizes his temper and language toward a young woman of high character while noting his generally remaining reputation. The council questions the explanations for payments to Mrs. Davidson and calls for future improvement. Dr. Brown defends his actions and cites evidence that allegedly supports his position.
March 18 Pittsburg reports a sweeping ARU led effort to organize telegraph operators nationwide under the American Railway Union. Western Union officials uncovered the plan via a leak and moved to halt it. Operators were pressured to quit. organizers had spread from Chicago to major cities.
Associate Justice Shira of the Supreme Court issued a writ directing the eastern district of Pennsylvania to bring the Wiberg and Peter Petersen case involving the steamer Hores ar rented and alleged neutrality law violations between the United States and Spain to the Supreme Court for review. The writ is stayed pending the division of the court and Charlies L. Brown of Philadelphia represents the officers in the jurisdiction.
John Jonas, wanted by Gorpels, killed Mrs Susan Meodenhill by kicking her to death in Anna. The city marshal at Aves Lil Angeuss supposedly aided flight to St Louis. Mrs Jones says her husband came to the city to kill her, but he was arrested in a raid. Treasury balance shows cash $265,231,652 and gold reserve $124,016,737.
