About 20 laundry workers met at the Trades Council hall near KE Kansas last night to form a permanent organization titled Laundry Workers’ Union. Officers elected and 20 more expressed willingness to join as charter members following the discharge of Edith Torrence and Gertrude Licht from White Star laundry. State Labor Commissioner BP Scott said Torrence was dismissed for supporting unionization and urged written reasons from the employer. Torrence and Licht were reportedly discharged for neglect and insubordination amid rising tensions with management. The case, involving Rosa and Alvis Loa Wax, is set for later this month.
