President-elect McKinley and party reach Washington aboard a special train at 11:15 AM and are driven to the Ebbit House. Crowds greet along routes from Canton and Harrisburg, with local reception minimal per Mrs McKinley’s wishes.
Crowds of about 5400 crowded Baltimore train sheds as Major McKinley and party arrived. Miss Helen and Miss Osborne of Cleveland attended with Mr. Webb Hayes as host. In Baltimore Maj McKinley bowed to cheers and made no speech. The presidential party was met by Abner Monnney and daughter from New York and Charles G. Dawes. The train was photographed near Baltimore. At Washington only a few admitted to the station enclosure amid reception committees. McKinley handed a bouquet to the weary engineer after the car doors opened, while the crowds watched and cheered.
Des Moines Iowa March 2 Municipal elections turned in many towns with Democrats winning in Perry Atlantic Oskaloosa and Clinton while Republican control eroded in several cities due to citizens movements. Silver and liquor questions featured in Ottumwa and Tamms races as Budgets and finance debates influenced results.
A March 2 dinner in Columbus at the Cochran hotel honored Senator Sherman with Ohio Republican leaders present. Speeches by Sherman and others praised vigorous foreign policy and a western hemisphere under republican governments, asserting the United States as a beacon to neighboring republics.

Healy said his pursuers included Irish Catholic forces and claimed to be a farmer with six children.
London reports a break in relations between the courts of St Petersburg and Athens. Greece plans to move 25,000 troops to the Pharsalus plains and 3,000 troops from Janina head to the frontier amid alleged village pillaging. A blockade of Stavaros is noted and fears of a massacre near Camlama grow. Greek reluctance to abandon Crete signaled, while 2,400 Mussulman soldiers in Melina fortress are described as at risk.
Milwaukee janitor James Clark of the Sixth ward school ends his life at midnight by tying a bell rope from the belfry. He climbed into the bell chamber, tied the rope to his belt, and swung off as the bell tolled. Clark, about 1 years old, leaves a widow. The incident is reported amid other items on dividends and weather.
A Kansas Senate session erupted as Senators Titus and Jumper alleged offers of 1000 to vote for a stockyards bill.
