The invasion forces disembarked safely at Baiquiri Harbor, with the last troops going ashore this morning. They proceed inland into camp among the hills, all units landing at the same location to begin operations.
A lengthy AP dispatch from Havana and Kingston details Gen. Shafter’s invasion force landing at Baquiri near Santiago de Cuba. It describes 6,000 to 10,000 troops on shore and in transports, ships supporting bombardment, insurgent Cuban forces in mountains, and orderly landing led by Gen. Lawton with multiple infantry regiments.
Washington June 25 The war and navy departments report no new developments at Santiago since last night. News notes one landing with troops scattered along a long beach as cables near Balquiri and Playa del Este begin to shape direct war communications. Analysts map potential landing points and advance routes for Gen Shafter toward Santiago with Cuban forces at Aserradero and Cabanas as key nodes.
London report says Manila insurgents have captured most of Manila but spare property in the inner city. A London agent claims Aguinaldo reached a pact with Rear Admiral Dewey not to attack the walled city until American troops arrive, after which cooperation would follow.
