The city sold its building to Knights and Ladies of Security for 455,100 cash. Several better offers were read, but the Security bid prevailed after council discussion, with plans to use proceeds for a new city hall auditorium and a possible trade discussed but not pursued.
Kansas Mutual Life Insurance bid 45 010 cash for the city building while rivals offered cash plus deferred payments. President J P Davit says the other bid included interest on deferred payments and that the council accepted the cash bid without modifications. He argues the charity group misread terms and that the two bids differed in payment structure and timing.
The Keight entity headed Ladies of Security made the first payment of 5000 dollars on the building by a corn ed check on Merchants National Bank.

Paris reports that Senator Waldeck-Rousseau completed a cabinet except for public works this afternoon. The lineup includes Interior Minister Waldeck-Rousseau, Foreign Affairs Delcasse, War Marquis de Galliffet, Marine Lanrezac, Justice Mobbs, Finance Caillaux, Commerce Millerand, Public Instruction Legens, Labor Deberals, Agriculture Dupuy, and Pierre Daudin accepting Public Works.
Kansas City dispatch reports former U S senator W A Peffer saying he has not joined any party and will act as a factor in national politics with the Populist party dissolving into the Democratic party. Charles Hahn, a noted German sportsman, won a peculiar bet by covering two kilometers in twenty minutes using five methods. He denies many of Havemeyer s assertions and accuses him of seeking to destroy the American beet sugar industry to favor foreign material handlers. He says the tariff has nothing to do with the formation of trusts and criticizes efforts to divert public attention from the sugar trust by attacking the tariff condition.
