Murder and Night Vigil Ends in Fire at Kaufman Farm
Sterling Vermont June 2 Robben murdered and cremated as described in a grim tale of theft and violence. George Kaufman son of Tobias Kaufman stood guard at the granary to protect it from thieves, fatally attacked and later burned to hide evidence. He was about 22 years old and lived near Ster Nag. After two weeks of vigil he failed to return for breakfast and his mother with the hired man discovered a charred corpse on the upper floor as the fire smoldered. Several neighbors are questioned but no arrest yet.
