London July Russia lodges formal protest at the foreign office over British shipments of contraband to Japan. The Associated Press says Russia will seek damages for seizures of British steamers and may pursue indemnities after the war ends. Russia also will not hasten settlement of the right of volunteer vessels to pass the Dardanelles.
Horton Kansas July 29 a meeting of anti Curtis Republican editors of the First district is scheduled for this afternoon in Horton with fifteen to twenty papers expected. Some delegates arrived at noon others by 2 30 pm and at 3 o clock the preliminary organization will be represented by letter. Additional papers expected include the Wathena Times Centralia Journal Holton Chronicle Netawaka News and Tiny M M Beck editor. The editors plan to prepare an address opposing the congressman nominee for the First district and explain why they will not support him.
Leavenworth Kansas July 2 Colonel D R Anthony veteran Kansas editor spent a quiet night and today shows much improvement. Physicians say a big recovery is only a question of time and expect further progress.
A morning forecast warned of a hot day with a cooler spell expected tonight. Central northern counties reported cloudy skies with light showers, while several Kansas stations logged highs around 86 to 90 and lows in the 60s. Winds were southeasterly near noon at about 20 to 30 miles per hour.
The body of W G Taetel, receiver of the Newark Savings Bank and supreme secretary of the American Insurance Union, was recovered from the Liking river. A note stated his innocence regarding the bank failure, his financial ruin, and his decision to end his life.
In Marion Ontario on July 23 a 22 year old farmer built a bicycle incline over a barn to leap a forty foot gap into a receiving incline over a water trough.
