John C Betton of Dodge City sought a warrant for arrest of a local restaurant worker accusing her of obtaining money under false pretenses. Betton, formerly a Rio Grande switchman, traveled to Pueblo for a planned marriage that never occurred after he was duped out of five dollars and later exposed to more deceit. The case may be referred to postal authorities for fraudulent use of mail.
Delegates from Burlington and Kay counties named Thomas H. Grisham by acclamation for Congress at the Fourth district conventions. Dr. Lawrence of El Dorado presided over the Democratic gathering while PRE Goodreau of Cottonwood Falls led the People's party. In St Louis a federal appeals court upholds a Nebraska suit against saloon owner John Moser and others for the death of Charles Walker. Walker, intoxicated at Moser's Ashland saloon on February 7, 19M, died after an accident attributed to his drunken condition. Plaintiffs, his widow and daughter, seek damages. the verdict favors them.

Central and southern Rocky Mountain areas need rain while temperatures run high except New England New York and Texas. Corn prospects vary by region with Kansas Nebraska Indiana Missouri Wisconsin Ohio showing good yields. drought in parts of Missouri Illinois and southern plains. Hay crop largely secured in the central valley as harvesting proceeds despite lodging and wet conditions in Ontario and upper Mississippi regions.
