At St Garrie Georgia July 18 the Georgia free silver convention featured Senator Morgan of Alabama defending free coinage and railing against Sherman and the 1873 bond era. He praised re enactment of the 1537 law, attacked parities with gold, and urged Democratic leadership for silver. A Chicago meeting discussed separate political action and heard from Memphis Arkansas West Virginia and Ohio delegates.
Fort Scott is stunned as Professor F Mohler a young musician and vocal instructor confessed to stealing two diamond earrings valued at 300 from Mrs Amanda Hartman. The incident occurred in a fashionable neighborhood after her return home caused by a burglar alarm. Mohler, recently from Topeka and linked to Lincoln Nebraska, borrowed money and fled toward Kansas City before dawn.

Chicago congressman candidate McGann faces probable defeat after election board uncovers defaced Republican ballots at multiple precincts. Officers of the affected precincts were arrested as officials review the irregular ballots in the McGann Belkops contest.
One proprietor of the Breeze, the official state paper, tests the State executive council this afternoon. He argues the 1576 law fixes 50 cents a square for ordinary printing and 20 cents for syllabi, insisting costs exceed 25 cents and urging a 50 cent rate. Topeka pays 25 cents for all official advertising.
