Richard Powers addressed about 2,500 workers at Bricklayers' hall urging oath renouncing two major parties and backing the People’s party. The scene was dramatic with chants and applause as Powers, Seamen's union leader, denounced political machines and led the crowd in an oath of independence. Other speakers stirred similar cheers throughout the gathering.
