Terrifying clash at Forty seventh and Loomis ends in deaths

Reports from Careno July 7 describe a violent confrontation between rioters and regular troops on the Chicago and Western Indiana tracks at Forty seventh and Loomis. At least twenty to thirty killed and many wounded as troops fired a single volley after orders to disperse were refused. Wounded and dead were loaded onto a wrecking-train to be brought to Polk street depot. Police and militia reinforced, artillery considered, while conflicting casualty tallies and chaotic communications hinder precise counts.
