Persistent rainfall from Decatur county to northern Kansas drives a rising Kansas River near Topeka. Water fills basements at Wolff packing plant and floods tracks along the Santa Fe bridge. Electric lines fail north Topeka as embankments erode and embankment damage risks Soldier Creek and North Topeka districts.
A local river rise threatens Topeka as two to four feet could flood the south side up to Third Street and impact North Topeka. Past floods from 1874 and the 1880s are recalled.
