Details emerge of the Pacific coast steamer Corona wrecked on a reef near Lewis Island, 43 miles north of Victoria. The ship from Share carried 20 passengers to Junad, with ten burmes and five Boge aboard, and was bound for San Diego. In Chicago on June 20 a dramatic scene erupted when John Loran tried to reenter the Luetgert murder trial chamber. He drew two revolvers and a knife before Deputy Sheriff George Albrecht subdued him knocking the knife away. Excitement filled the courtroom as bailiffs and bystanders rushed to control the disturbance. Burns, recently incarcerated, was detained at East Chicago avenue station.
Four passengers left bodies in baggage cars during a tunnel fire on a Santa Fe line. As trains shifted, they fled east with trunks and satchels, abandoning the bodies. Chicago January 23 The Chicago Star-Sun reports pressure within the New York Central and Lake Shore system. J. P. Morgan is said to oppose Depew's leadership and a restructuring is likely. Vanderbilt may push for continued involvement while Depew faces retirement or removal to a government post. The shift could precede a voluntary exit or forced retirement at the railroad's top.
E Adolph of Los Angeles relays that L S Put Bam, Norton Drake agent, found a whole family near Mam moth Tank 60 miles north west of Yuma on the desert night before last. William Joyce and his five children aged 12 and younger, driven from Prescott to Chine Cal., ran out of provisions after 350 miles of travel. They carried water and supplies, and careful nursing saved them the first night.
Friday evening the Topeka High School held its midwinter commencement in packed school auditorium. Dr Emer son White of Columbus spoke on The Duty of State in Education. Chicago January 29 report on the organization of a national firemen's association continued. The committee on bylaws adopted a constitution naming the National Firemen's Association of the United States. Its aims include harmony of action, pecuniary aid to members, compiling fire fighting equipment data, and establishing national rules for all national tournaments. Membership open to every fire department salvage corps insurance patrol and state firemen's association in the United States.
The North German Lloyd steamer Aller arrived in New York bearing the captain and crew of the British tramp steamer Dago of Sunderland. The Dago, after a leak and boiler damage caused by a broken steam pipe, sank in rough seas near Leith and Baltimore. The Aller rescued all hands, taking them in lifeboats after the Dago’s deck broke apart and the vessel lay ruined and sinking for nearly two weeks.
The severe cold wave grips northern New England with Barker Maine registering 29 degrees below zero, Lawton Maine at 1 below, and Concord New Hampshire at 22 below as thermometers show 38 degrees below in Bangor Maine. Boston reports continued plummeting temperatures on January 2.
A dispatch from Chicago reports Prastdes Ding plans a nationwide tour visiting principal cities including St Laura Chicago New York and Washington as well as the Pacific coast. A three car Pullman train departed recently from the company and another is expected to follow shortly.
A proposal seeks to bring 12000 to 15000 Shriners to Buffalo and Cayuga Island for a century end demonstration. A replica of Solomon's Temple is planned for Pan-American exposition site with treasure rooms and an innermost shrine. Details to be shown at a Dallas meeting in June.
Washington January 29 The House approved paying Seek publishing Co of the Methodist Episcopal Church South 284000 for wartime damages after a long filibuster. Representative Cooper of Texas steered the bill through. The final vote stood 189 to 67 in favor.
Portland Ore Jan 23 The Snow Yee Transportation company of Chicago which has the contract for transporting government relief supplies from Skagway to Dawson has let a contract to the Portland Iron Works for building frames and assembling the machinery of Kanow and Ice looo motives.
At a Topeka meeting last night progress on plans for a permanent convention hall was outlined. A report from Major Anderson's committee proposes a canvass of subscribers, a branded fundraising effort, and a midsummer fair, aiming to raise approximately 34 000 including coal hole funds.

One hundred seventy five dancers filled Robert B. At 31th Avenue home in red attire for a lavish New York party. The ballroom and guests wore red ribbons, roses, and decor. revelers wore themed costumes with animal motifs while overtones of carnival music played. W K Vanderbilt and Harry Lehr appeared among the hosts, with supper at 1 o'clock and a final red-sailed doll gift for each dancer.
