Chicago drainage canal moves to Lockport control
Water from the new drainage canal flows at a mile an hour toward Lockport with about four cubic feet per minute entering the system. Joliet dam work should finish in four or five days, enabling sanitary use of the canal as the Gates at Lockport will open and later close. The Chicago River level drops eight inches since Saturday, not due to canal flow. Engineer Randolph reports on the canal condition and the Inspection commission will respond promptly with needed changes. Gov. Tanner and the commission expect a formal permit soon after the final report, with a special committee meeting in Chicago a week hence.
