Washington Feb 5 secretary of the treasury opened bids for 100 million dollars of United States 4 per cent thirty year bonds dated January 66. In CarcaGco on February 5 a Lake View carpenter Richard Klaeke murdered his entire family of six with chloroform and then shot each to death before killing himself. The victims were Kate Klaeke his wife Mina Klaeke his mother 71 Mina Klaeke daughter 9 Anna Klaeke 8 Emma Klaeke 7 and John Klaeke father 75. Despondent and unemployed since Christmas the killer left the family cold and hungry before the tragedy.
Two Topeka men named Kellam, cousins and relatives, died within hours of each other. T. J. Kellam passed away after a fortnight of illness. Edward P. Kellam, 62, died at home, likely from heart failure, after visiting his cousin. Edward P. Kellam served as a gas company cashier and stockholder, married since 1857 to Orpha DeWolfe, with one surviving son, Edward P. Kellam Jr.
The Kansas Republicans organize judicial conventions for the Court of Appeals divisions, naming chairmen and secretaries in Northern Central and Western departments with conventions planned for April in Oakley and Dodge City.
