Nashua New Hampshire December 238 The Cannon Ball express train from the north collided with a freight in the north yard. Engineer Edward Quimby and fireman J I Marshall were instantly killed and several other crew and passengers injured. The wreckage caught fire but the blaze was soon extinguished by the fire department.
Constantinople December 24. W W Pert treasurer of the Missionary society in Constantinople and St Gurgiuly draso Maas of the United States delegation left December 17 from Salonica to meet the brigands holding Miss Stone captive. No news expected for days. The government has instructed provincial authorities to assist the U S negotiators for Miss Stone’s release. Spencer Eddy United States chargé d affaires attended a Selamuka Thursday and was cordially received by the sultan.
A fragmentary notice reports light snow with minor accumulation and a windy morning in the north. The forecast predicted fair to moderate temperatures, with hourly readings shown for Colonk 5 and 28 degrees at certain hours. A second fragment advertises Dr. King's New Life Pills as a purifying remedy for digestive issues, sold at A. J. Arnold & Son's.
Teachers at the State Teachers' Association meeting in 1901 rejected President Er. Nichols of the State Agricultural College's push to accept Carnegie's 10,009,000 dollar gift of steel trust bonds for a national university. A motion to lay the resolution on the table passed. Dr. A. E. Winship spoke on education for American boys, urging broader schooling. Awards awarded for teacher enrollment proportions and county participation.
Kenans City December 28 A Star special from Guthrie Oklahoma says a man suspected of killing Santa Fe detective A. C. Montgomery at Winfield Kansas last summer is under arrest at Del Rio Texas. He and O W Coffelt connected with a ranch near Winfield face felony charges after a high reward was offered by the Santa Fe and Pawnee County.
Poindexter unanimously elected as general manager of the Kansas Gold Field Syndicate, replacing S. Ott to manage company properties. About 60,000 invested by Edwin Scott, H. F Dilon, KW Pollester, W. W. Manspeaker, W. F. Evans, Lewin, A. B. Quinton, RB Handesor, M. Y. Quin ton, Judge Hoyer and others who entered the gold fields, aiming to solve a profitable ore extraction process. Also note a small fire at the West Tenth Wintrode residence at Tenth and Harrison caused minor damage estimated by chemical engineers.

Reports from Santa Ana Pomona and San Bernardino describe a fierce storm labeled a Santa Ana wind. Winds over 40 miles per hour uprooted trees damaged roofs shattered glass and cut power and telegraph service. Orange crops suffered heavy losses and rail traffic was delayed or halted.
In Anadarko Oklahoma a Rock Island freight train jumped the track at the mouth of the town. A two year old child, Frank Fabisson, died instantly while a tramp carpenter of Linovít and several others, Dr. M. J. Bla and Frank Bytes, sustained injuries. The wreck blocked the railroad and emergency crews attended the scene.
Washington December reports the New Year reception schedule for the president. Highlights include the president receiving cabinet members and diplomats at 11 am, followed by top judges and officials, then lawmakers and district officers, and finally military and civil service leaders by noon. Evening events include veterans groups and civic associations with various officials listed. A separate note from New York reports the death of Mrs. Fiske’s business manager Charles E. Power from apoplexy at St Marys Hospital Brooklyn.
