Nine Men Roast in Gas Furnace Disaster

A gas explosion at Jones & Laughlin near Brady Street in Pittsburg at 6:20 am kills nine workers atop a furnace 120 feet high and injures about twenty others. Bodies drop to the roof below. firemen remove them with hooks and ladders as hospitals report numerous burned victims. Names of the dead include Frankovitch, Gasdovicz, Kochanko, Szrenko, and others. several injured are hospitalized and many workers remain unaccounted for.

Devastating Plant Blast Unleashes Narrow Escapes On Second Avenue

An explosion at a plant sent friends and workers fleeing as debris and hot cinders rained along Second Avenue. Funston Confirmed for Brigadier General by Senate

Washington December 1 The senate confirmed Frederick Funston of Kansas for brigadier general amid debate over his Aguinaldo capture reward. Support cited endorsements by MacArthur Wickham and records. The vote was unanimous to report the nomination along with several army and navy promotions including Lloyd Wheaton to major general and Colonels Smith Bell Bisbee and Gillespie.

Stewart Loses a Tax Title Dispute in Supreme Court

Washington dispatch reports Wilder S. Metcalf of Topeka Kansas nominated by the president to be pension agent in Topeka Kansas. Metcalf, born September 10 1855 in Maine, served in Kansas National Guard and the Spanish American War rising to colonel and brevetted brigadier general.
