British warships retaliate against Sultan Khalid's defense of Zanzibar Town. Port facilities and palace come under heavy fire as Royal Navy forces demand surrender. Reinforcements arrive for both sides, with near destruction of fortifications and ongoing shelling as ultimatum deadline passes.
Admiral Raween led efforts to prevent Said Khalid’s escape as marines and bluejackets moved ashore in Africa. British forces, including detachments from Sag ship St George, pressed operations to capture insurgents, extinguish fires in the palace and old customs house, and tend the wounded. Loyalist forces under Gap Raikes held the main road, insurgents laid down arms, and British ships conducted target practice while preparatory hospitals treated native wounded. The harvest festival model would channel proceeds to the paying of typical party expenses and speaker outreach.
