In Leavenworth on August 2 a 21 year old man Charles Wise Wiseman and 18 year old Elizabeth Hawes asked Probate Judge Hawn for a license and wed. The next day William Hawes, the bride’s father, aged 40s, married Mary Wiseman, the groom’s mother. The remarriage makes Hawes both father and father in law, while Hawes’s daughter becomes daughter in law to her own father.
At Oshkosh Wisconsin on August 26 hot words flew between Congressman Lorimer and Commodore Henry L. Herts of Chicago after regatta races. A corridor confrontation ended without blows as Lorimer protested Herts jockeying, while Herts claimed Lorimer’s boat Pots faced exclusion from a regatta earlier. Pots then sailed for Columbus club and defeated Marvin, skippered by Lorimer.
Mrs. Stotts a longtime Topeka resident died after a brief illness at Stormont hospital. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Simeon she lived on Van Buren street for over five years and was active in Tin Comet society. Her husband, Mr. Stotts, was away in Carfen City when telegram notified of the illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at 2 Van Buren Street.
